Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

Why is it strange? We aren't harming anybody by doing it and it's fun.

I'm pretty sure it's legal for tourists to shoot guns in the U.S.

You should see about borrowing a gun and shooting it while you're here before you go back to Australia where you can't.
-_- Australians can own and discharge firearms in Australia - and not just in gun ranges. There are just much, much tighter restrictions.

I have many, many friends in Australia who hunt, for example - and farmers will often keep rifles to combat the wild dogs that take down their flocks of sheep.

It's certainly not that Australians can't shoot a gun. We can.

I addressed that in a previous post. It is in fact legal to shoot someone in your house in about half the states. By that, I mean if they're in your house, even if they're unarmed and have their hands up. The other states will consider you a murderer if you just shot someone with no real reason, other then you didn't want them on your property.

I do not believe it is legal in that situation to pull out a gun as nobody's life was being threatened and it was not your property. Call 911 and leave.
I thought in your original post you were saying that only in TX was it legal to shoot someone. I guess I misunderstood.

As for the second, in my state it is legal to open carry. I did not threaten anyone and no laws were broken by me. The two guys that walked within three feet of my and tried to stare me down with their arms crossed were certainly threatening in their manner. I had reported them in the commission of a crime and they were trying to intimidate me. What would you have done? Turned your back to them, loaded up your groceries, put your son in the car? Grabbed your son, left your groceries and ran? Good for you. I would not. You seem very anti personal carry. Good for you. I am not.

But if this thread continues in this vein it will be shut down. I personally am going to go enjoy the Sabbath and leave BYC alone until tomorrow night I think.

My friend and I were recently talking about myself getting chickens again. I mentioned that I only wanted hens bc I don't want chicks, just eggs. First she said but are you getting males or females. Again I said hens... she said but what are you getting chickens or roosters? It was like the joke who's on first. I was confused. She was confused. She grew up thinking all chickens are called hens. And that chicken meant female lol.
Then she asked why I didn't want a rooster. The chicks will hatch out of the eggs even without the rooster right? Just around and around lol So funny.

Because chickens totally breed by parthenogenesis. XD

That would be awesome. Let's make it happen with SCIENCE!

They have some pretty strict gun laws there.

In the U.S., any legal citizen 18 years or older can simply walk in a gun store and walk out with a 50 bmg rifle (look up 50 bmg to see the size of the bullet it shoots; it's pretty large). They do have some pretty stupid laws about how certain guns are imported, and they're a bit strict on how you get full auto guns, but for the most part most guns are legal here.

That's why you don't move to Australia.....

I misunderstood your previous post. I didn't know they encountered you.

I have a friend who wants to get her 1st chickens this spring. She asked me "Which are the ones that lay the eggs?"

And I told her "The HENS" and she said that I would have to narrow it down for her. So funny! We'll have fun getting her set up with them for sure!
When I first joined BYC I thought that I might be criticized for not being a pro upon arrival - the way that some hobby animal sites can tend to be.

The more comments I see from people intending to get chickens but knowing so little about them - the better I feel about my own knowledge. XD

Actually that's part of why I -did- move to Australia from the US 11 years ago. I was born in Oregon.

well i think we pro gun people have made our points and the anti gun people have made their points let us get back to the thread topic before someone gets their feelings hurt or someone removes the thread

and with that i was talking with a kid in the waiting room at the hospital who was eating a sandwich that kind of looked like it was a burger king sandwich of some type (the ones with the egg's bacon etc) and i said "you know i raise the animals that made the egg's on your sandwich." and he said "you raise McDonald's?"

don't feel bad i have been raising chicken for 15+ years and i just found out not 4 months ago that chickens don't just eat scratch with oyster shells, eggs can be hatched without broodys and a productive flock doesn't have to be 25 or more strong. Learning isn't always fun but it keep us all going(and some what sane).

My daughters friends will not eat the eggs I give her. We have a rooster so the eggs do have a spot on the yolk. They said it would make you sick if you ate fertilized eggs.
City folk .. go figure
