Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

How do you keep a hot potato I a spur for however long it takes for this to work?
I just held him in my arms, My rooster is super calm. I held his legs together for 5 min, then took the hot potato off, and twisted. \

I know you can do it without the potatoes, but the potatoes help soften the skin ( making it even easier to twist off ) and supposedly help with the bleeding/pain. For me, I would rather be safe with the potatoes, then sorry that I caused him extra pain

A couple of comments have come my way this week....

"Oh, you have chickens?" Yes, I do.... "Well I'll never be eating chicken at your house or any chicken dishes you bring to work." All I said was... Someone always brings a bucket of KFC, so all is fine.

"What color eggs do you get?" Different shades of brown to cream.... "Oh, so all your chickens are brown. Ya, know I just learned that recently, that white chickens lay white eggs and brown chickens lay brown eggs." Um, no.... That's not how it works at all... As I bless her sweet heart!!! :th
 
Blame media for the egg/chicken/ear color issue. I saw it again somewhere from a place that should know better
 
I read in a reminisce magazine once (this was 20 or more years ago I read it) that in the early 1900's you could find freshly butchered chickens in little Chinatown and other Oriental populated areas with the heads and feet still attached and they used the chickens like most families in the mid west and south I heard about (they used everything from the pig except the oink)....
You didn't have to go to Chinatown in days gone by. When I grew up (now that would be revealing my age) the chickens and turkeys in the meat stores were all presented picked, whole, but with their heads wrapped in paper. It was up to the consumer to remove the entrails and anything else they didn't want to use.
