Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I've had this:
"If you eat your own eggs, then you are eating baby chick!"
"No, I would need a rooster for that."
"Farm chickens have babies without a rooster"

What happened to "the customer is always right?" And who buys a house without a bathtub/ only a shower?
I had a co-worker who couldn't stand the smell of Roast Beef because once when pregnant, she became very nauseated. Her baby was in his mid 20s when she told me (expecting first grandchild thus the reason for stories) the the association was still just as strong as when it first happend. She knew the reason for it, but couldn't get past the one time reaction. Sometimes are brain doesn't always make the correct connections.

My wife won't even try catfish because when she was pregnant her ex caught some and while they were in the livewell she saw them barf up algae. He's over 30 now. At least I got her eating some other freshwater fish. She'll eat creepy crawlies off the ocean floor, but won't eat catfish.

Its funny how as a society we are becoming more and more distant from where our food really comes from. People don't associate a Big Mac with a cow or a store bought egg with a chicken.

Ignorance is bliss...

HAH! Yes he does like the roaches of the sea... as do I. Though non water based giant bugs gross me out (and no I can't explain this). I think he's more interested in being against the hippie green movement as it's too extreme and has these weird new fangled ideas. I figure if you think of how most things are raised, cared for, processed, etc there is probably something you're not going to like (even if it's just fertilizer for plants), that your food was grown or processed in/on. Though I guess the whole point is he didn't really think about it to begin with.

.... my mom still thinks I'm strange, but apparently she has been scarred for life having chickens as a child. She said she was always sent out to get eggs, and she associates chickens with rats (which she really doesn't like), and a big ol' mess to clean up. They had a lot of chickens grown up though. I have 4, and no matter how many I had I'd take steps to prevent or eradicate rats if I knew about them.

She did have a good laugh about my newest chicken though. My Polish runs a lot more upright and will get excited and flap and run at the same time. That combined with her poofy head she's just hilarious looking. Actually she looks like a Chocobo IMO. So she asked me if it was a chicken or if I'd adopted an alien bird.

Told one of my neighbors I had backyard hens and I got my first, "Don't you need a rooster for eggs?" :D He's a nice neighbor though and really just didn't know so I told him they will lay without and he soaked that in for a moment then looked at me and exclaimed, "Huh... And I was raised on a farm too!"
