Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

And I probably wouldn't be buying any beef from you, either.

If animals are raised in a healthy environment, like they are supposed to, and not CAFOs, then chances are they won't be getting sick. After working three Farmers Markets last year, a myriad of people have come up to us thanking us for providing good, clean meat, without all the extraneous crap, including grains for the cows. Cows were meant to eat grass, not grains. Everyone can make their own choice, but, should do their research first and then make the choice.

Animals can and do get sick even though they are raised in a clean healthy environment. A clean environmet and good nutrition will minimize health problems but will not eliminate them. Cows on pasture can and do get mastitis, grass tetany, milk fever, bloat, foot rot, pink eye, pneumonia, Johnes, brucellosis, warbles, tick fever, warts, and that is just what immediately comes to mind. Most dairy cattle cannot produce without grain. There are some Shorthorns in Australia I read about that can get by with minimal grain, but I don't think they are producing 30,000 pounds of milk in ten months either. If a milk cow does not get adequate nutrition she robs her own body to maintain milk production as long as she can. Most of the people proclaiming what is "natural" for cows or other livestock have not raised any large numbers of them and quite frankly, in most cases, they don't know what they are talking about. Raising two or three beeves does not an expert make. Neither does reading books and not having hands on experience. Modern livestock isn't "natural" anyway. They have been selectively bred over a course of many years for certain characteristics. If you want to raise a purely natural meat animal, get a buffalo.

OMG, I was telling a lady at work the other day that I'll be getting chickens this summer and plan to have lots and lots of eggs. I told her I'd bring some in for her so that she can taste how much better they are.

Know what she said?

Her: "Oh my GAWD, eeeeeewwwwww, I could never eat those eggs!"

Me: "Ummmm, why not?

Her: "Well, BECAUSE, they came out of a chicken's butt!"

Me: "Ummmmm. Huh? You eat eggs from the store, right?"

Her: "Well, yeah, of COURSE, but that's different!"

Me: "How is that different? Those eggs also came out of a chicken."

Her: "But those are all sanitary and come in a box."

Me: "I'll wash my eggs and box them for you too."

Her: "Blech, no way. I could never eat eggs from your chickens. That's just gross."

Me: "***?"

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!

LOL, this is just too much. No wonder I want to quit my job and become a pioneer woman and never have to leave the house...

Can't fix stupid.

A couple of friends of mine I've known for years are a doctor and a nurse.
I gave them a dozen eggs once and afterward they came by the house to see the chickens. The nurse won't eat the eggs anymore since she saw the nice clean chickens foraging in the field. I said, let me show you how the chickens that laid the eggs you eat are raised. She refused to watch.
To the doctor's credit, he doesn't understand either.

Once I was talking about a rooster and she didn't know that a rooster was an adult male chicken. We were astounded. She said she knew everything about medicine but admitted she knew nothing else.

How can a kid grow up watching cartoons and not know what a rooster is.
Hello, Foghorn leghorn.

Edited for spelling.

Most cattle in Ireland aren't fed grain, they graze during the summer and eat silage during the winter. Some farmers will feed cattle rations for a while at the last few stages of grown just to get some fat through the meat. Very few would be fed on grains if any. I have also heard of some cattle being fed completely on potatoes.

X2

We never fed grain to beef nor dairy cattle. A little to horses and pigs but never cattle.

Me: My chickens hate the snow! There's a theory that chickens don't like walking out on it because it makes them highly visible to hawks.
Adult man: Aren't all chickens white?

....Really?

I read before that some people don't believe their is a TRUE bison strain without some cattle dna in it because of people crossing bison and cattle as far back as a couple of hundred years ago, They would either have an animal that would stray away from their herds or just turn the heard loose and thus they would intermingle with other bison in that area.

Seriously? This thread is supposed to be about funny stuff, not cow DNA. keep it light, people.
