I had a lady that refused to buy fresh eggs, even though they taste 100% better, because she is convinced that because we have a rooster, when she cracks open an egg a chick while pop out.

I have explained to her many times that the eggs have to be properly incubated for at least a week for the embryo to even start forming. Anyway, her husband decided that he would start buying eggs from me regardless of what she says. So he gets a whole dozen of eggs to himself. That is the only person I know that has refused to buy fresh eggs.

well, they ARE considered poultry. (Even though it doesn't make sense.)

Good grief!! And to think all this time I thought poultry had to have feathers. Once when I was ranting about some beaurocratic nonsense or other I had a friend tell me that I would feel better when I figured out that logic has nothing to do with anything. She was right.

what a good friend! And what a relief when you can "let go" that most people don't compute logically!

Saw this on the Bing homepage today! The 'search words' were AK47 and Chickens. Apparently, there's also a term for when chickens are at a car accident? It's called a 'chicken spill'.

EDIT: For when we're chucking roos into the stew pot, we talk to the roo before hand, assure him that everything will be fine and quickly slit the throat and the let the bird bleed out. Then we complete the decapitation and pluck the bird and what not.

I agree! We slaughter our birds with a gas that vets use to put them to sleep for surgery. We leave the birds in for a little longer and they die in their sleep. The meat doesn't get contaminated because it isn't a chemical has- completely natural! So much better than industrial techniques.
what is it that you are using?

Perhaps I am "cruel ". When I process chickens, they are hung upside down, then the throat is slit. A prayer is said for each, thanking them for their life. When rabbits are done they are held and petted, the prayed for, before they are knocked unconscious (more often killed outright) by a blow to the head. When killing any animal, I try to make it as quick and painless as possible. And I always thank them and God, that they are giving their life so that I might continue to live. Before death, my animals are cared for, and loved. I know they have had a good life, much better than they would have if raised commercially.

Crickett, I don't think you're cruel. You're treating your animals with respect and to me this is really important.

I have always contemplated the idea of raising animals for meat, but I know I'll get attached to them and won't be able to process them. I admire those who are able to give their animals the life they deserve before processing.
