Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

My dad said to me "you know you have to kill them every winter and buy new ones. They only lay eggs for a year and they'll die in the winter months" uhm no dad just no. Had my chickens for 7 months now and he still think I have to kill them in November. I can't convince him otherwise.

Had a girl at work tell me "they lay white eggs right? You know you can't eat the brown ones. Those are the ones you give to other animals" no just no.

Neither of them have ever had chickens

I kinda have a silly question. My new chicks, 1 of them is constantly covered in fermented feed on it's head and chest, how should I get it off of it? It's kinda dried on now..

Not a silly question. I'm glad your chicks are getting the benefits of FF. My chicks especially, and now my adult flock often look like they've been in a food fight. I just shake my head at the crusty ones, smile, and walk away. If they have a dust bath, they will clean themselves up, and they will also groom the crusties off of each other. I pretty much ignore them when they are in need of some personal hygiene. they'll get around to it eventually. I'm thinking of naming one of my gals "Pig Pen" Because she takes dust bathing to the extreme. She often is the first one to dust bathe... before the morning dew has dried, so she's got a nice coating of mud on her chest and neck feathers.

Today I got my first egg!! I called my BFF to tell her, and mentioned that the egg was so warm I couldn't resist putting it against my cheek. She was horrified. She tried to convince me that it was disgusting because it came from the same hole as the poop. I changed the subject. Her dog eats poop and then licks my BFF on the face soooooo.....
