Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

In most states there is a law on the books that states that a product must be suitable for the purpose for which it was intended. Moldy feed is not suitable. If this happens again stand your ground and insist they make it right. I once bought an electric dehorner that gave me a shock the first time I tried to use it. I took it back and the little sweetie behind the desk insisted it was my responsibility to return it to the manufacturer for repairs. I told her, no, it was her responsibility to give me a new one. I talked to the manager and much to her chagrin, I walked out with a new dehorner.

yeah I just never darkened their door ever again I think I got my point across to them

My bf is so resigned to making me stuff for my chickens now, driving to the post office at 11 pm to pick up chicks, driving me all over the state to get chickens, and rabbits and I started by just wanting 8 egg layers for blue and pink eggs. Now I am at 54 chickens. We're going to be getting muscovy ducks this weekend.

I kinda have a silly question. My new chicks, 1 of them is constantly covered in fermented feed on it's head and chest, how should I get it off of it? It's kinda dried on now..

take some warm water on the patches and work it off between your fingers a bit at a time being carful not to rip the fluff out

You know that silkies are saiyan right? That's why their head feathers stand up.

Here a young cockerel goes super silkie for the first time.

Ok, this was from my 5yo. We bought laying hens a while back and when we got our first egg it was a chilly morning. She carried it around in her hands to keep it warm, because there was a chick inside. I explained that our eggs wouldn't have chicks inside because we didn't have a rooster. We needed a rooster to have baby chicks.

A few days later we got a rooster and three new hens. When we got an egg from them, my 5yo was thrilled to finally have a rooster egg! I told her that roosters don't lay eggs.

"Then why do we need one for baby chicks? You said we couldn't have chicks without a rooster, and now we have a rooster to lay the chick eggs."

Luckily husband took over after that and talked (briefly) about mommies and daddies.

That's sweet!

My favorite stories from BYC are of when someone has guests over, and a rooster does his thing, and the guest carefully asks what he's doing, followed by an in detail description of mating habits and reproduction of poultry from the owner's 7 year old kid. That has to be pretty funny.

I have had several people bashfully ask me how birds mate, when they seem to lack the necessary equipment. I don't think it's really a dumb question, but the reactions you get from some of them are hilarious.

I had a funny conversation today with an elderly relative. She didn't understand how I could have eggs from my hens even though I have no rooster...

I have to say, we marveled over it for several months when we first got our chickens. It was a source of amazement for a while. I actually am still in awe of how chickens live their lives. I love it!
