Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I was telling two work associated about how my family was getting chickens for education and food purposes. I of the guys said, "I can' t believe you care about fresh eggs and you're a smoker." .....like feeding my husband and 3 children has nothing to do with it! The other guy said, "Why would you even bother? That's what the store is for." I responded with a, "because the eggs in the store that you bought last weekend were laid around 2-4 months ago, are full of chemicals and pesticides and are bleached on a regular basis. and I like my food a little fresher than that! He shook his head and said, " I just don't get why people would go through all that for eggs!" Some people..........

I just don't get why people who have the choice to eat truly "farm fresh" eggs and meat would do anything else. Lol!

People like what they are used too... I know I can eat grubs and they supposedly taste good but I grew up being told bugs are gross... So I'm no to keen on trying them, same with wild food, I'm always a bit hesitant because I grew up being told not to eat those berries or that plant etc...
Just like the first time I ate sashimi... Isn't it supposed to be cooked... But I tried it, and now I love it.

So true! We are creatures of habit. :)

Thanks for the support! She's not personally running against me...she's campaigning for the guys who ARE running against me. That's fine. They are good men who have a lot to offer to Cowley. The way I look at it, no matter who loses Cowley still wins. Hard to campaign against folks who have so much to offer and when there's nothing to say against them! I'll either win or I won't. I'd like to see the projects we've started through to the end, but they are just as qualified to do that as I am. But even if I lose, I know that I've done some good things for this wonderful little community. I ran, I won, I served. That's a lot more than most folks can say.

Besides, I've got a family and chickens who still need me just as much whether I'm on the council or not, right?

Well stated Blooie. Wish I could vote for you, love your level-headedness.

And, I don't get how anyone can eat corporately produced food, knowing it contains chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, and GMOs. Quality, that's why. One man's pleasure is another man's poison. Fortunately, he's not required (nor was he asked) to "get it".

To say the eggs in the store were laid 2 - 4 months ago may or may not be accurate. Some may be that old but a lot are very fresh. Depends on where you shop and where you live. Somebody posted a link not long ago on how to read date codes on egg cartons. As for me, I personally don't much care. As long as the whites are firm and the eggs look to be of good quality I'm good. Right now I have fresh eggs. My chickens are producing more than I can use. But before then, I had to buy eggs from the store. The quality of the eggs available from our local market varies a lot, but the eggs I have purchased from Wally World, oddly enough, have been consistently of good quality. I have had no complaints about them.

Some people have never tarted the difference
Tarted??? That's one of them fancy Canadian words ain't it?

My office where I work at had a big team meeting Sunday morning at a fancy restaurant in town that served us breakfast. Think its about the first time I've had "unleaded" eggs since my girls started laying. They tasted like they were sad and was very weak tasting to me. Then I found out that the dozen eggs I gave to the boss and her wife went to some cupcakes that she brought into work. Kinda wanted them to cook them up and really taste the difference, but I did get a couple of cupcakes out of the deal, so I'm not complaining.

I couldn't beleive the difference in eggs when my girls started to lay. Store bought eggs are watery and the yolks are pale yellow but the nice, good eggs from my hens are flavorful and the yolks are bright orange. I thought that it was very cool. I live in a very small farmer town so when I told people that I was getting chicks they were all very excited to buy some fresh eggs (at the time the chicks were only a day or two old). Now we are just waiting for the eggs to get a bit bigger before we sell them. The people here are very supportive of my chickens and are eagerly waiting to buy some eggs!
