My mother in law also doesn't want fertalized eggs, so we lie to her. She also thought eggs became fertilized when a rooster came over and sat on them for a while. We tried explaining chicken reproduction but I don't think she believed it, so we just tell her these eggs weren't sat on by a rooster.

Also when we first started raising them she said that chickens were dirty and carried diseases and would make us sick. I asked her why she ate chicken if that was the case and she said store chicken was safe because they treated it with chemicals to kill the diseases.

Telling her a rooster didn't sit on them isn't lying.

Newbie to hens here- it has been fun learning about everything chicken. Gf asked last night if we could do something non chicken this weekend!

Yesterday I took 2 dozen eggs to work to give away to the business next to us. I told them i was there to get them hooked on my eggs. I got the standard questions- how do you get eggs without a rooster was the first. The ladies laughed after they processed the response I stole from this thread about "well you dont need a fella to have your aunt flow come visit do ya?" Then I was telling them how much I look forward to them eating the bugs from my garden before I plant and using the compost when one woman got a look of disgust-"is it ok for them to eat bugs and does that affect the eggs?" I wasnt as funny in my response, I just said they need the protein to keep their bodies up and all sources are good for them.

I was easily able to offload the free eggs...hopefully they will become fresh egg junkies and I will be able to pay for the feed and bedding with the sale of the eggs!

Another one the other day, though it seems to be a common misconception. I was talking about chickens with hubby and he said he thought brown hens layer brown eggs and white hens layed white eggs. I corrected him, but what got me is our hens lay blue eggs so where does that fit in to that logic?
