I've found over the years that those who claim to have high IQs and bring it up, don't. All the people I've met like that have given the impression of below normal.
Hmmmm .... by Jove, I think you've got it! Those who have it, don't need to advertise. It just naturally makes itself evident when they open their mouths.
I used to watch the Pink Panther movies with my dad. I guess it takes a somewhat dry sense of humor. As for TED, watching a stuffed teddy bear hump a light post in a grocery checkout line, along with some pretty graphic stuff to go with it, isn't my idea of funny. Save it for the 7th grade boys' locker room.
As far as "shut-up" and "stupid" go, it's a personal thing with her. She's thinks those words are crass, but the movie TED isn't. (Go figure) We were in a tatting class (hand lace-making) together and it was very detailed work and quite frustrating. The nice lady next to me said something about how she finally "got" something. I looked at her through slitted eyes and said (mostly under my breath), "Oh, shut up". She laughed. My friend said in an imperious tone, "In MY house, I don't allow people to say shut up or stupid." I responded, "How stupid. I guess it's a good thing we're not in your house, huh?"
I'm always saying, "Stupid cat" (as she falls flat on her face when attempting to pounce on her brother. I think she's part flying squirrel.) Or, "Shut up, you silly chicken" (as they follow me around the yard, cackling loudly). Funny. *They* don't get upset.
