Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

When I was like 5 or 6, we had a broodmare give birth to her foal and I had gone into the stall to see the baby and I even cleaned up the afterbirth before Mom had gotten up and found out about the baby. Mare knew me and was totally cool with all of it.

Most of the time this is the case, BUT it only takes once to change the whole outlook on life.

You and me both. So many people talk about their violent broodies and I just can't see it lol
Indeed. So far my broody hens will, at worst, growl indignantly at me but still happily accept a cuddle. If I steal a chick momentarily (for whatever reason), I get a couple of light pecks when I return it - that's the worst I cop. I work from home/stay home with our child so twice a day I'm out there giving the chickens treats and cuddles. They are extremely tame. Even my roosters - the worst I cop from one of them is a scratch from a claw when he's resisting being picked up.

I don't know what Attila the Hen would have done if I'd tried lifting her or sneaking her chick out from under her. I was so impressed with her great show of grouchiness that I figured discretion was the better part of valor and I left her the heck alone. Well, that and I only have 10 fingers and I'm attached to all of them.

I have a EE and my friend thought that sense the shell was green the insides would be green, and I then told her that Dr. Susses green eggs and ham wasn't made up. She was so scared of the egg, and when I made her eat some scrambled eggs later she TOLD me that I didn't use my EE egg, I almost cried from laughing so hard.

I leave the broody hens alone as much as possible. Sometimes the chicks will slip through the fence, and then they run up and down the fence line peeping their heads off until I come to help them back into their designated space. Even picking up a chick on the other side of the fence invites a whooping from the broody! I'm glad the hens are teaching the chicks to be fierce. Everything is fine as long as I am serving them ... it's only when I try to interfere that they intervene.

So far the biggest issue with disturbing my broody hens is the chick I found this morning stepped on by its mum. :( I'm guessing it happened partly because I was irritating them and the hatching egg was crushed by her. I've been leaving them alone since finding it.
