Is there a dun/fawn gene in buff orpingtons? I need to know quickly so I can know whether I need to keep them in the breeding pen.
Thanks,
Ryan

I think it varies depending on the strain. Typically, a buff fowl is wheaten, columbia, darkbrown, mahogany, dilute?, and champagneblond.

I've seen it in hatchery Buffs, so yes I'd say it is safe to assume so. Also, not sure of what strain Tony has, but he's gotten some dun from his Buffs too.

I agree with the others; there is no dun allele in buff. The buff color can be produced with birds that are gold, wheaten, dark brown restricted and columbian restricted.
