The Dunning-Kruger effect happens with the correlation of confidence and experience in any given subject. People who have no experience have the highest confidence most rapidly acquired, people who have more experience have the lowest confidence and experts have confidence almost as high as rookies. The Optimism Bias is the idea that we as humans are more optimistic than we should be. This bias goes well with the belief of ‘it won’t happen to me’
On BYC, we see both of these a LOT, even if you don't know it.
Example of Dunning-Kruger effect on BYC: Newbies who come in acting like they know everything and don't want to take advice; people who know enough to know that there is a lot to know who have very low confidence, you may notice they often say 'but I don't know much. Wait for others who do know more to chime in'.; and then there are the experts who talk in levels way above our comprehension, have a hard time relating to newbies and have a lot of confidence in their abilities.
Please watch the following videos and, if you wish, consider how these affect the users on this forum. Do your best to be better than the statistics that define these syndromes and when you encounter them, understand them and work with them. Better yourself to better us all.
Discussion is more than welcome
