Duramycin Had No Effect...Next?

If my chickens are in their forever home, do you think it's okay for them to live like this? Could they be in an pain? By observation I'd say they're not. But hey, my back hurts every day and most people I'm around don't know it. So, I guess there's a chance this affects them. We don't sell our flock. Nor do we hatch any chicks. We just have pets with a bonus of eggs for breakfast. What do you think?

That's what I'd do since there are no other symptoms.

Oxine is a fabulous thing, yup. Thank you, Miss Lydia, for mentioning it. This protracted months-long period of super high humidity and extra high heat for my area left three of my older hens who were unaccustomed to it with breathing issues akin to pneumonia/aspergillosis. Fogging with a cool mist vaporizer and oxine solution for several days fixed them up. Oxine wipes out all bacteria and fungi. You can buy it through Revival Animal Health or if you are lucky enough to have an Amazon.com gift card, they ship from Revival. I have never used it for just sneezing, but it is a wonderful and useful product to have on hand. It can be used in their drinking water as well to kill bacteria and is more powerful than bleach.

Speckled Hen- where do you get your birds, if you don't buy chicks? I ordered from a hatchery and they will be shipped soon.. Does this mean I should really stay away from chicks posted on CraigsList? I've noticed some breeders nearby post certain breeds. This is starting to worry me! I don't want to bring home anything contagious.

My first birds were from Ideal Poultry, bought from the feed store the day they arrived by mail from the hatchery. I've bought a handful the same way, direct from the hatchery delivery to the feed store, but all others were either hatched here from eggs bought from reputable breeders whose cull policies I know well, or from my own birds, with the exception of two birds. One was my rooster, Hawkeye, bought as an adult rooster from an FFA kid. He was in quarantine for 5 weeks, had lice and favus, but thankfully, no respiratory contagion. The other was a gift from a friend with a clean flock--she hatched eggs from a breeder, kept the chicks to pick the ones she was going to keep then gifted me with an 8 week old pullet. I still kept that pullet in quarantine for almost 8 weeks. Those were the only two started birds to come here in the almost six years of owning chickens other than the chicks straight from Ideal. I will never buy Craigslist birds, flea market birds, etc. It's too stressful and too risky for me.

I don't want anymore hatchery stock now, not after losing almost all my hatchery girls to internal laying. I prefer good quality breeder stock-they seem made of better genetic material, in addition to being better looking per the Standard of Perfection.
