I just put my dust bath out a month or so ago. Well, it's just wet sand now, as it's been raining a bit here.

I don't have room in the coop for it. What does everyone else do for their birds winter dust baths??

Thanks,
Laurie

I may be able to do some major adjustments to the feeding center in my coop and make room. ??

Can you rig some kind of a cover for it? Maybe put it inside some kind of boxed or tarped off enclosure to keep the rain out. Even something as simple as a small "tent" of plastic or tarp might work.

Thanks you two.
I was thinking about whether or not they would go INTO a kitty box w/ a lid outside of the coop. Do you know?

I think maybe a cheap little roof on legs. What do they call that? Not a pergola, but solid. ??

I would think they would go into a kitty box - they go into nesting boxes and buckets and all sorts of things to lay their eggs. I would guess that they would find the dust in there upon exploration and figure it out.

The little roof on legs - if it was big I think it would be called a carport. Since it would be really small, maybe a chickenport?

My chickens dust bath in the mud - or at least that's what they look like they do.

They will go into a kitty litter box I know, and I bet they could figure it out. Not sure if it would be big enough for a large bird to roll around in though??

Mine bathe in the mud, too!

And somehow they looked positively fresh the next morning! (These are red sexlinks!)

Good to know. Am thinking of re-arranging the stuff in the coop, so I can make room for a small storage area anyhow. Seemed like a big coop. 8x8(x12H). Now, I'm not so sure.
