Dust Bath Trance

Do chickens go into some sort of wierd trance when they are rolling in the dirt? Mine seem to...

Yep. That same goofy look I give after a hot oil massage...the 'ahhhhhh'' look.

And then they go and after a little shuffling around, all lay down like a carpet runner: wing to wing to wing. Goofballs.

They look drunk to me! They can't even walk real good at first.

mine look like they left their heads for a minute they just lay in the dirt on their sides til i make a noise lol

Mine always look like they're dead and scare me half to death! Funniest thing I have seen!

After 16 years I still go running to check.

Yes! But one should avoid being downwind when they shake it off.

There is also something close to the same condition I like to think of as `Sun Chicken' Somnambulism, wobbling, and blinking back into the world of berries and bugs...

Not only do mine look like they go into a trance, I GO INTO A TRANCE just watching them. All very fascinating. It's been so muddy around here for the last couple weeks my girls are irritated they haven't been able to take a dust bath.
