I had wondered if the Chicklets were actually consuming all that grit I had in the little (about the size of a rabbit crock) rubber bowl as it was going down awfully fast. Then the other day I was watching them as I pottered about in the veg garden and saw Skye "dust" bathing in it. She barely fit, but she was making the best of it. I wouldn't have thought that grit would be a very good medium for dust bathing, but I suppose it was better than the rest of the run which was a bit damp if not downright wet.
Talk about putting a guilt trip on you! I had a couple of coir blocks that I expanded and then left in the sun (overnight in the shop) to dry, then when it wasn't drying fast enough threw a handful of pine pellets in to help absorb the moisture. I had a whiskey barrel planter insert that I wasn't using, put the "dust" in that, and stuck it under their coop where it should stay dry with no problem. Put a little video on YouTube
. At one point there were three at once in there - I think I'm going to have to keep some de-compressed coir on hand to regularly add as their dust bathing was quite vigorous!
