Dust Bathing

I live in Georgia and mostly have clay in my yard. What is the best dust bath recipe?

Place this in the managing birds forum for best suggestions faster replies.Some people have more experience in certain sections, and will more likely come across this if it’s placed there.For instants I’m more in touched with behaviors and managing birds then sickness and disease, so I likely won’t ever come here to this forum no very little, as having little experience with sick birds.So I would just move this thread to the Managing tot flock forum as that is where this would fit in best and you might get even better suggestions there and quicker.

I would suggest some sand. Years ago I put sand in a shallow tote like the kind that will slide under a bed. The birds loved it. Good luck and have fun...

Go to Home Depot and get a couple of bags of topsoil. I've seen some folks take an old tire and fill the center so that the birds can use it for dusting.

X 2 Have the same issue on much of the property.
Made a raised bed though, a chicken garden just can't handle looking at a tire.
The neighbor's toilet planters have made me a bitter woman.

Raised beds are a great idea. You don't 'get' the aesthetics of the toilet planters?

Nothing but red clay here where I live. My chickens free range and make dust baths where ever they want to. The base of pine trees (several different ones), under the back porch, and in the front flower bed seem to be their favorites.

No sir I do not, nor do I find how putting solar lights on each and every one that cycle RGB are expected to not be frowned upon at least a little bit.
I'm just waiting for some bathtubs to roll out, tis the season.
Folks with toilets and tubs for planters, i'm not a hater but there are eight of them in a rainbow of colors....all with the same kind of plant! Come on!

When I’m planting flowers I kind of like things that look nice. You know, like flowers do.

The use for bathtubs in the yard in New England is mostly altars with statues of Mary. A whole lot better than multicolored toilets!
