Dust Bathing

Ouch!
I hope it never catches on where you are. Nothing more depressing than seeing rainbow comodes full of nothing but elephant ears.:(

Here, elephant ears are an annual. Lots of elephant ears to buy each spring! Though maybe they can be taken indoors for the winter. I know just where to keep them! in the bathroom, of course!

I'm cringing typing this, but they put more soil and close the lids.....yeah, thats how those puppies survive winter.:hmm

You can use some combination of peat moss, sand, wood ash, topsoil. I use all peat moss. If you're buying any of these items, such as the topsoil, make sure there's no additives like fertilizers, perlite, etc.

Back to the topic! Probably for the best.

Mine were in a little bit of potting soil recently and they ate those little white balls. (Styrofoam?). I saw it later in their poops. No harm done, I guess. No plans to let them in it again, though!

Most likely perlite.
@Chickassan Must be an upstate thing. Don't see that here in the midlands, but we do see a lot of tires turned inside out, the edges scalloped, painted white, and used as planters.

It is, the farther up and to the west you travel the more toilets you'll see.
Iv'e even seen a couple water features.

I came here for learning what others do for dust baths, and left much more enriched in the ways of toilet-bowl planters. These responses are hilarious!

My run is gravel and sand, and natural clay-mix. I am still working on what to do for a dust bath since I’m new at this, but I heard no matter how nice of a dust bath you provide, they will still find ways to create their own in a place that’s inconvenient for you.
