What do most use for the dust baths in the runs and coops. We use a kiddie pool and a Smaller plastic tub. We put sand and DE in it but it gets so heavy when it gets wet. What is best to use for my ladies? Or is this the best to use? Thanks

My hens find the ash in our sand run . It's so nice and light nothing compares to it , according to my hens .

I've heard of people burning a few logs just to give the natural ash to their chickens .

I put it in a cat litter box for small birds and on the ground under a roof for the big girls

When making dusting baths for birds not in contact with the ground, I use a mixture of clay soil, fine sand, potting soil an sometime a little woodash. End product is a silt loam. The mix is kept dry.

Mine like plain ol' Earth. I sprinkle DE in their favorite spots, though. It makes me feel better knowing they're working in a finer particle.
