I get lawn dirt (but I live in the woods so no pesticides), let it sit in the sun to dry and it works great. They love it

I keep my quail on the ground and gave them construction grade sand, but they prefer to dig little holes and bathe in the dirt.

Also, if you decide to wait until they're bigger for an actual dust bath, they *might* roll around in a soft towel.

I use play sand.

Play sand can cause crop issues if they eat it. Construction sand is less clumpy so less potential trouble.
