Dust baths

I love when they cram in together!!
Mine do that regardless of space. In the video, I had just watched all 6 of them cram into the same space and bathe and sleep in the sun, but was too busy laughing at them from my kitchen window to think of the camera then.
When they were pullets they tried to sleep altogether on a small 25x40cm box top which was also a pretty funny pile of feathers to look at.
They love each others company.

Your chickens are so cute Metanoia- it is so funny when they all jamb themselves into the same pot! I have a catawaba-type ark my dh built for me and since they are going on 20 weeks old I opened the end nest boxes (wishful thinking). At night if I forget to block them off- all 6 will be jambed on top of one another in 1 nest box! I open the door and they are all there in this little 12"x14" space

I have to gently start peeling them off each other while putting them back in the roost - all the while they whistle and wheeze and grumble quietly for disturbing them- they are hilarious!

I use playground sand for mine to take dust baths in. I put some in the brooder in a box when they were still young, now we throw a bag into the corner of their pen every few weeks. They eat it and they love to dust bathe in it.
