When giving chicks somewhere to dustbathe, what do you put in it. Just normal playsand? Is it ok if they eat playsand?

Play sand is great!

It will not hurt them to eat some.

Hello. I think sand would be ok, considering they need grit and they eat grit. I use fine dust for mine. And yes it is ok for them to eat the dust because they get soil nutrients. Hope this helps!

We use equal parts of:

1. Sand, we use play sand.
2. DE
3. Wood Ash, from our wood stove
4. Soil, we us standard potting soil

Hope that helps!

I just put mine in dirt. It doesn't hurt them, they like rolling around in it. I don't put anything special in there.

Doesn't potting soil have added fertilizer and stuff?

I just put a little plastic tub of play sand and wood ash in the brooder and they thought it was a buffet line!!! Silly birds!
