dust mites and worming?

A whole month is much too long to be throwing out eggs after one round of Ivermectin. The most I've ever heard for that is 2 weeks.

wow PatandChickens - what an awesome reply.

I agree with galanie that maybe a month of egg-discard is a very long time. A vet told me once that egg discard is only for the event that the human eating the egg would be alergic to the medicine given to the chicken (as if penicillin.)

elizdrose - how great that you are planning your flock care. One thing about worms...if you see them in the 'droppings', then the worm infestation is pretty bad. The droppings contain eggs, the eggs can be eaten by bugs, earthworms etc. and when the chicken eats the earthworm the roundworms that infect the chickens can be perpetuated. If your climate has hard winter freezes there is some affect on the cycle, if you live where there is seldom a hard freeze then, you may want to do some 'preventive maintenance'. Here, I will worm no less than twice per year.

If you go to my BYC page, there is a link to a series of videos about mites. One shows a man dusting a hen for mites -- if you want a cool 'how to'. Both duster and dustee look so 'relaxed' that it almost looks like they are enjoying it.
