Dusting and mites?

flgardengirl, plastic garbage bags come in all sizes....I have a Jersey Giant roo lol. I have everything ready to use prior to catching the chickens. I use treats to trick them into the pen, it's easier to catch them. I have the dust in the bag, put the chicken in the bag with the chickens neck/head sticking out the top. You're using one hand to keep the bag closed around the neck and your other hand is underneath the bag and supporting the weight. Then gently roll the bag around and the dust will cover the chicken 'shake and bake,' very easy to do, they rarely put up a fight. Their toenails may puncture the bag but if your supporting them correctly, puncturing will be minimal.

I use Eprinex. It's a topical application- 1/2 a ml. applied to the back of the neck. It's not specifically approved for use on poultry, but many folks use it. It's quick and easy, and it doesn't pass through to eggs, so you don't have to discard any eggs after treatment. The only downside is the price tag. It's VERY expensive. As far as I'm concerned it's worth its weight in gold. (And that's about how much it costs.)
