When I got my chicks, I had a bag of Dumor chick feed. It was all crumbles from 1st scoop til the last.

Then, I bought a 40 lb bag of purina medicated chick started because I had a coupon for it. The purina brand looks more like flour. It has some crumbles but mostly looks like dust. Is this because it's medicated? Will the chicks still eat it? or did I just waste money on a big bag of dust because of a coupon?

I would call Purina and ask them about it. They will likely give you your money back if there is a problem or if it is supposed to be that way they will probably give you coupons or something for your trouble. I would think that if it is supposed to be crumbles it would not be dust, but I am not familiar with Purina.

As was mentioned above. Crumble should resemble crumb. It sounds like your bag may have been the end of a batch they made. Thus giving you a lot of powder. I would try to take the unused portion of the bag back and ask for a replacement, coupon or no coupon. Feed stores are generally OK with returns as long as there is proof of purchase. Good Luck Steve

I worked for a silo maintenance company and a lot of our work was in animal feed mills. Their silo often become blocked and the feed has to be dug out using pick axes etc. this can cause pellets to break up. This could be the reason why u got a bag like this.

Purina got back to me almost immediately when I sent in the email request. They asked for the date and batch information on the bag and asked me for a sample of the feed so they can follow up with quality control. I sent them all the info they asked and they said they will send a voucher for a new bag. 50% dust is not suppose to be whats in the bag. I am really glad I asked...without having baby chicks for so long I honestly wasn't sure.

Really happy with Purina too. They seemed really nice and wanted to look into the problem.
