Hello,

Our 4H leader ordered some chickens and was told they are Dutch bantam chickens. We have only one hen who is the light brown variety. We would like to get some pullets and a cockerel from our leader, but do not know if they are Dutch OR what variety we should get. Could someone who knows more than us advise us??
Thanks!

I do not think I was very clear in what we are wanting advice on exactly, haha. Sorry. If they appear to be Dutch (they are only like six weeks old)? If any stand out as better quality? If any color variety is okay to breed with a light brown hen? And so on... Anything that may help us!!
Thanks again!

Much to young to judge quality yet. Need to wait until they are around 6-8 months old. They need to molt twice to see how their mature pattern is going to be. Unwanted leakage "wrong colored feathers" can show up in second molt that doesn't in the first. Also need to be fully mature or nearly fully mature to see their type "shape, stance, size, carriage" and how it compares to the standard.
