Hello folks

What are the genetic strengths of the Marran abd the Amercannas in the different parts of the country. What part dose color play in showing the different parts of the country. Do you have a point system for body, wing carrage ect........

Example.

Over all conformation or general Appearance Which line excels in general Appearance and which lines produce the better and most type heads and wing carriage. Is the Maran an up headed breed or are they generally low carriage and what do the judges want to see.

What about Ameracannas . Which lines have the best egg colors and best over all appearance.

What is the most important traits do you look for in in an out cross chicken and what traits represent the most "Tipey" traits that brings the breed together for you. Dose each color have its own "type" i know that each dog breeder holds onto a certain Ideal type which transcends color . Is it the same in Chickens? Would some kind soul please shed some light on the very important ideals so that this dummy that I am may learn and not be so ignorant?

Type is the most important thing to look for before color faults. The old saying is you must build the barn before you can paint it. More importantly the proper type allows the chicken to fulfill it's purpose best. As far as the individual breeds you're talking about, you'd be well worth it to purchase the APA Standard of Perfection for the Ameracaunas (Doesn't have to be a new one, you can get old ones pretty cheap), the amount of knowledge contained in the Standard is invaluable to a new poultry person, as it covers general and specific faults. For the Marans, you can probably write either the breed club or the APA and ask for the standard (They were recognized in 2011 and the newest standard was printed in 2010 so they are not included.
