Dye in water?

I just use regular ol 1 gallon plastic waterers. They usually start to run out every other day or so, depending on which pen it is. If they are dirty, they are easy to see the water level. If they are nice and sparkly clean, you cannot tell unless you are way up close.

Is there anything you can put in the water to color it? Food coloring? Or will I end up with pre-dyed easter eggs?

I use a small rubber ducky. I can then see the yellow of the duck faintly inside the clean water tank. I got the idea from a rabbit water bottle at a store I saw that had a lil turtle in it.
