We have a larger flock of around 30 chicks and around 3-4 of them have had something like this happen, Im starting to think there's a disease going along. Last week or so I saw one of the birds limping, so we brought her in. She was doing great, besides the limp and the occasional falling over on her face. Active and eating, able to run a bit, all that stuff. We put her in a soft carrier we bought for chickens, laid some towels down, and gave her food and water. When we brought her in, we also noticed there was poop caked up on her butt. She smelt horrid. The next day once we went to check on her, she couldn't even hold herself up correctly. She was just laying on her side with one of her legs straight out and the other curled. There wasn't any poop anywhere, and no more caked up, which we thought was weird. We filled up a small white bucket with warm water to bathe her and get the crap off of her. After we bathed her, my step-dad was checking to see if she was egg-bound. Instead of being egg-bound, she just couldn't poop. He put his finger up there, and shit just started coming out. He did it a few more times to clean out her system a bit. She was a bit more lively after, but still not walking. We did this again a few days after and repeated what we had done the first time. Her condition has stayed the same no matter what we do. We're not sure what to do with her at this point. She's not happy and isolated, with no way to get around. This has happened before as I stated, and we ended up having to put most down, but one passed by a seizure. Their condition never improved and escalated quickly. It wouldn't take long for them to go from walking normally to not being able to move at all. It's cold where we are but I highly doubt the cold would be causing this.
