Dying Turkeys - Ohio

Dirt floors hold pathogens...

Let us know what Mt. Healthy says when you call on Monday...

Mt Healthy Hatcheries gave us a refund on the Turkeys, but they man was quite rude and actually accusing me of neglect. He failed to make remarks to the hens that are doing great that I bought from them

Oh well, they are doing what is right and that is what matters. The man's attitude might change my buying next year.

Thanks for the help BYC Members!

I wouls still take a turkey to your state lab. Don't freeze it. It damages the tissue. They will tell you want to do. Call them.

Turkeys are very easy to kill off, when the weather is damp, humid , they get a respiratory infection that can kill them in hrs. When they start to drop thier wing feathers and act like they are tired, they are close to death. The only thing we found to keep them from dying is add 1 tablespoon of White Vinigar to 1 gallon of clean water. it will bring the PH factor back to normal. It saves us alot of turkeys last yr. It works for other poultry too, won't harm them, but NEVER give them softened water, it will cause a heart attack.
We learned alot from trial and error!
