I have Buff Orps and Australorps. They are 16 weeks old and it seems FOREVER until I get eggs. I can’t wait!

I had a barred rock lay at 17 weeks, a buff orp lay at 18 weeks, and now have one each of my breeds laying at 20 weeks... I have barred rocks, partridge rocks, buff orpingtons, rir's, and light brahmas .... I also have golden laced and silver laced polish, but they are not laying as of yet... Good luck... and look forward to hearing about that first egg.

I'll keep on waiting. In the meantime, I'll be ordering more chicks!

Yep, around 20 weeks is a good average to go by regardless of the breed. Some will lay sooner than that and some will take a little longer.... the wait can be nerve racking for first timers however! Just keep the faith and you will have little gold nuggets to be proud of.

I leghorn laid at about 20 weeks, followed closely by my RIR. It was real hot here, and then one day the heat slacked off a tad, and boom, we had eggs! I think they were just too hot to get started sooner. JMO!
