How is Daisy? Did her eggs become more normal? I have 16/17 week Red Star pullets that have started laying. One of the girls is having a similar issue to Daisy.

Thing is, laying is something that people really have no control over. It is a bodily function. Diet meeting basic needs, allows for reproduction. You can feed all of your chickens exactly the same thing, and have different laying patterns for each hen.

And it is perfectly normal, to not have perfect eggs, especially in the beginning of laying, the first time they lay, and even after molting. I think when we first come to chickens, we rather expect grocery store eggs - exactly perfect. Thing is, even commercial eggs have glitches - they just sell them differently.

As for KrystWolfangel - 16-17 weeks is pretty normal for Red Stars. They are created to lay well, and lay young.

So - I am not a big believer in worrying over what I cannot change. Egg laying, early, late, funny shapes, with and without shells I cannot change. "You get what you get, and don't throw a fit." haha

Generally speaking, the glitches work out, if you do nothing or something.

I was not specific in my question. I was wondering if the soft shell issue resolved. I am not concerned about when the pullets begin to lay. My Red Star pullet is passing more than one egg per day and is therefore passing soft eggs. Today she had three eggs. One was normal and the other two were just membrane. I am hoping this issue clears. I have raised many chickens, but I have never encountered this issue. It is not a calcium issue. It seems to be hyper ovulation of some type.

Daisy is doing well. Seeing less and less shell-less eggs. A lot of her eggs are double yolked but she is still doing well.

sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I did not see this text. All three of my pullets started off laying "soft" eggs so I am not sure what is going on but they are all doing well and for the most part laying proper eggs.
