Early signs of dry fowl pox - looking for added advice (like should I quarantine?)

@Eggcessive Thank you! I've been doing regular mouth checks (since my greatest fear in all this is someone getting the wet version and me losing someone). So far I haven't seen anything inside anyone's beaks. I'll get another look at Gaz later tonight when I flush her eye again, just to make sure I didn't miss anything.

I did just get done cleaning her eye a few minutes ago. Thankfully there's no foam there at the moment. Corner of her eye looked a bit gunked up, though, and a feather was stuck, (but that might've been the Neosporin from earlier) so I trimmed her crest back from it a bit more and cleaned it.

Just wanted to update that everyone is hanging in there so far. My three girls with the lesions around their eyes are clearing up.

However, Gaz, who only had a bulge on her beak for several days now, had her right eye severely swollen yesterday morning. Looks like she might've scratched at it too, because the bump below her eye was bleeding. I flushed it a total of 5 times yesterday with saline and applied Neosporin. By the end of the day, she was finally able to crack her eye open.

Today she's got her eye open again first thing in the morning, so that's good. But it's still very swollen and now has foam coming from her eye. I'm still keeping it clean again.. I'm hoping this subsides quickly for her. I'm not quite sure what else I should do for her. It looks so terrible.

Note: some of the yellow on her beak is raw egg I gave her. But she does have a lot of pussy substance and scabbing on her face.

Thank you for the update.

I'm sorry to hear that Gaz is still struggling a bit. Hopefully the eye will heal fairly quickly.

Let us know how she's getting along.

@Eggcessive @Wyorp Rock Thank you both very much, I appreciate your time and well-wishes.

I can confirm that Gaz does appear to be getting the wet version of fowl pox? Technically, the one huge lump on her outer beak (that's at the corner of her mouth) has gotten so big that there is a small bump on the inside of her beak as well from it. That bump inside wasn't there yesterday for sure, but the outer bump has been there for days and it's been growing. I suppose it makes sense, the beak is pretty thin there.

I swiped a little Betadine on it (I'll get my iodine out tomorrow and use that instead from here on out). Her eye is looking better so I didn't flush it, just added some Neosporin for now until tomorrow. And I put Betadine on her other external bumps.

She does appear at peak symptoms, going based on what I've seen with the others (a few days of really bad swelling/pus/oozing/etc then suddenly the bumps start to clear). But I'm still going to be super diligent about that spot in her mouth.

Edit: I'll get a photo of it tomorrow for information's sake.

Good move on using the Betadine. I agree, if you have Iodine, then use that on the beak. You may want to sanitize her water as well if you haven't been doing that.

Hopefully this will not turn into wet form.

Poor things!

Those medications will treat bacterial infections, but Fowl Pox is viral.

You can sanitize the water to help reduce the spread just a little.

Chicken Chick has instructions on how to sanitize the water using either Iodine or Oxine.

Thanks for all the information! The information in the link was super helpful too.

Gaz has been slowly improving. No signs of wet fowl pox so far. Her eye is no longer crusted closed, though it is slightly squinted from the bump below her eye. That bump is cleaner and smaller now. The general swelling around the eye is there still, but less. Also, after that very first incident with the foam in her eye and I cleaned it with saline, she hasn't gotten a foamy eye since. Her eye is very clear now.

So far everyone is hanging in there. The original ill bird, Leslie, and another (Mim) both seem to have fully recovered. There's a bald patch of fresh skin on each one's beak from their weird scab lesion falling off.

So far I'm getting pretty familiar with the signs of fowl pox. But my Speckled Sussex, Hazel (she started a very heavy molt the past week and it's her first molt, second fall) suddenly has bubbles in her left eye today and some clear discharge that's wetting her face. She also sounds a tad congested and I caught her scratching at her face by her eye. She is one of the last 5 of my 19 to not have shown any fowl pox symptoms like scabs and such (though I do think she has one tiny scab on her comb - could be pox or the rooster). I'm going to clean her eye later tonight and check for wet fowl pox in her mouth. She is eating great, though. Wolfed down 3/4 a can of tuna. Behavior is relatively normal and falls in line with my other molters. But I brought her in for the night where it's warmer since it suddenly got cold the past few nights. I'm stuck between whether she has MG or fowl pox that it just starting to show...
I did find this old thread that sounds like what I'm dealing with: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...ye-fellow-flock-members-have-fowl-pox.850861/ Shame there's no follow up info on what became of the hen.
