I’ve had a harrowing year with 2 girls with bumblefoot.

i recently decided to check all their feet twice a month. Trust me this is the most stressful thing to do as they hate to be handled, and I don’t want to hurt them.

this morning I found a VERY early stage bump on one of my welsh girls, so I kept her in the barn.

what I have on hand: baytril liquid suspension, Metacam, Epsom salts, neosporin (not with pain relief), sterile gauze pads and vet wrap.

since it’s so tiny, should I try the Epsom salts? Should I bandage her foot?

i really want to avoid a vet trip as these vet visits are getting me into financial ruin.

Thanks!

A picture of the foot would be helpful to consider if treatment is necessary at all at the moment.

And if you pick them from the roost at night to check on their feet wearing a headlamp the monthly inspection results less stressful.

Great news. I took them both to the vet (another girl had a swollen ankle). Luna, who had the spot on her foot was NOT bumblefoot. Vet said it was a minor abrasion, cleaned her foot and told me to put a product called New Skin on the abrasion and she is good to go!

Baby Spice, who had the swollen ankle was deemed a minor sprain. Some compression bandaging and a couple of days in the barn with Metacam.

I guess I always consider the worst with these ducks, so I’m very relieved and glad I took them in. I’m only out $200 for both exams.

I AM going to continue bi-weekly foot exams, though. Early prevention is my goal.
