Try temporarily switching to sand with some type of desicant, like Stal-dry in it plus move any water / moisture source out into the run. This will make it easier for the chickens to scratch for the bugs and keep the area dryer and less bug friendly.

my chickens love to eat them -- mine make the "yummy-got a special treat" clucking when they find some.

I've been doing the olive oil trick and it seems to work the best.

Too bad I can't do it in the house. Every time I use my printer they come running out of it.
