Have you tried cornering them so you can pick them up? While I'm new to chicken keeping, it didn't take long for me to figure out how the pick them up so the couldn't flap their wings. I center my hands over each wing, and then tuck them under one arm like a football and my hand supporting the breast. This way it leaves one hand free for gentle petting and to offer treats. I did this with my Red Star that we bought when she was 16wks old. It didn't take her long to figure out being picked up wasn't such a bad thing lol

I will work on that for sure. Some will eat out of my hand. Thanks for the pointers!!!!

I raise them from chicks and they get used to me very quickly because I'm the one that takes care of them. It's funny when they get older and as soon as I step foot out the door they come running to me. Especially if I have a bucket! Guess they love leftover scraps I give them ;p

When I brought 3 of my girls home, they were terrified of me. They were pullets, one still is. Now the come running to me when I come outside, but I usually have a treat for them. My recently acquired EE has not reached POL yet, but it seems that when they are laying, that they are much more friendly. When my BSL, who was hand raised, goes through a molt.... she wants nothing to do with me.

Chickens have no real concept of time. I know my girls are up fairly early, but I don't let them out of the coop til it starts getting light out.
I have read about people saying their chickens get pretty loud. I guess I've been lucky...until now. Recently the girls have really gotten into "singing" the egg song. But it's usually during daylight hours. This morning however they started in about 6:50 am!! So out I went to let them out early. They came rushing out the door like usual, only to stop dead in their tracks when they realized it was still dark! They cautiously made their way to the feed bucket, ate a few bites, then headed right back into the coop, where the light was still on lol

Ameracauna x wyandotte egg color?

I have done barred rock x Ameraucana. Light brown x blue gives a nice minty green. No olive unless maybe the Ameraucana is already minty green.

Well I have read that Croad Langshans have a plum or purple bloom on the shell. It washes off.

Same here...nothing is more funny than a chicken high tailing to get the leftovers first, just love my chickens, but feeding them scraps everyday seems to keep them from molting to a naked state, they thin out but never exspose there skin, there spoiled...
