Easter Egger club!

The youtube video is more detailed for showing birds but at the beginning of the video the judge's hold is nicely demonstrated.  On larger birds than bantam breeds we add our second hand over the chicken's back to hold down the wings so they don't flap.  It takes practice of owner and bird to get comfortable with picking up birds in the judge's hold.  We can pick up our Silkies without having to hold down their wings but it takes time and practice to get it right for both bird and owner.  The younger the bird, the faster they get accustomed to being picked up this way.  For laying hens it's important not to hold down their reproductive sides

THANKS SO MUCH:goodpost:

+1 Thanks for showing that.

I'm getting EE's this spring but I have names for them: Molly and lucy
OK, I've heard about counting your chickens before they hatch, but really?!

Offside question here for Sylvester: How do your chickens take to walking around on the expanded metal?

Does it bother them? Do they try and avoid it? Or do they just not care?

Alright we rearranged some names because bonding have gone better for some... My roommate bonds very well with them as do my niece and nephew and well the chickens choose who they bond to lol... We also have our three additions and on Monday we will have three more beauties. We have also had our losses with two young chicks which happens so here's recent pics with updated names.

OK, So I'm going down to the pen to check for eggs, make sure they have enough feed and get the ice bottles out of their waterer to refreeze them. I get halfway down when all of a sudden there is this gawdawfull screeching! I double-time it the last few feet thinking "OMG, there goes another hen!".

Well when I get there I do see one hen desperately trying to get away...from Chaz!

He is desperately holding onto the back of her neck and trying to climb on top! Only problem is she is having absolutely none of this $#!t. For that matter I haven't seen any of the pullets squatting yet, even when I pet them. That doesn't seem to be discouraging him though.

Can I arrest a rooster for statutory rape?

Whaaat? I like being overly prepared! Lol not really I just like those names in general... You never know with names, like you pick out a name and then you see it and your like nope that's not the right name for him/her!

Very true we've changed some names due to this lol I'm already thinking names of the Olive Egger Roo and two Faverolle pullets I'm picking up Monday but who knows what it will actually be when I see and hold them
