I'm hoping to get your guys opinion at what age the comb of a male Easter Egger turns pink. I'm also curious to see what other tell tale signs you are all looking for in sexing 5 to 10 week old EEs.
Any thoughts?

I can show you some pictures of my buddy Rusty:

at 5 weeks I was beginning to suspect he was a he:

at 6 weeks:

at 7 weeks:

at 10 weeks I notices pointy saddle feathers coming out:

Well actually at 10 weeks is the age when they are getting ready to lay. so he could be a she.. i did have an EE that looked like that (maybe even redder/bigger) and she turned out to be a she

i guess it just varries?

Peon: Thanks, your pix are very helpful. Those saddle feathers sure are not found on pullets! I have a few 7-week old EEs and non exhibit pink on their combs. That gives me hope that there are no boys in that bunch!

Redness of the comb tells quite a bit, but redness and height of comb tells even more. You can see from the 3rd pic of UP's post how her cockeral's comb has mass as well as color. These are a couple of my almost 20wk old EE pullets and you can see that they don't even have the height of UP's cockeral does at 10wks.

EE is in the back and a delaware of the same age is in the front:

That's a pullet- my roo had pretty obvious signs of being a roo by 10 weeks- they won't show much at all until 16 or more weeks old if female. I have one at 18 weeks who still looks like she has NO comb- at all!

Most birds do not begin laying at only 3 months old (12 weeks). That would be rare indeed. It is usually more like 6 months old (24 weeks) 5 months is pushing it. some do not start to lay until they are even 8 months or older.

they do start getting redder faced several weeks before, though, right?
