This is Hedwig an Easter Egger chick that just turned 9 weeks old yesterday. When I first saw the red coming in on the wings I was thinking she might be a cockerel.

Now that I see red coming in on her face and neck I'm leaning more pullet. Her comb and wattles aren't giving me cockerel vibes either, but I decide I'd check with y'all and see what others think. I'm keeping her either way since she's such a little snuggle bug (which naturally makes me suspicious, lol)

Adorable! My vote is cockerel. Not only because of the red wings, but those are some pretty thick legs and his comb looks wider than typical.

Edited to add: beautiful dog in the background!
Thanks, that's Daisy she's a Husky Chihuahua mix . . .don't think about that too hard, lol.

I'm happy with Hedwig either way, he could be breed with my mixes to possibly get offspring that lay different colored eggs . . .or at least that's my understanding of how it works . . .sort of . . :idunno

Husky and chihuahua? Now there's something I haven't seen before, lol. She is beautiful though!

Now, as for your Hedwig, you know I'm not great at sexes, lol. And EEs seem to throw me very often. Something about those mixes, I think. The red leakage isn't always reliable in EEs, and I tend to struggle remembering that at times, but I'm getting better.

Hedwig does have some awfully thick legs, though.

I figured he was too snuggly to be a pullet . . .might be a replacement for either Taz or Kettle this coming spring . . . tough decisions to be made at a later date.

ETA: Now Hedwig may need a new name, but I'll wait and see if the comb gets redder in the coming weeks.

You could call him BuckBeak. 🤷🏼‍♀️
