I thought these two Ameracauna's we bought were both hens, but the one with the large comb (on the gray/black/white one) jumped on the others back and seemed to mate the other one this afternoon. I havent heard any cock-a-doodle-do's yet, but was wondering if you thought i had a pair of hens or a hen and a rooster. THanks!

- this is a hen

100% rooster. Easter Eggers can be sexed by color.

One of my Buff Orpington roosters was attempting to breed the ADULT hens at only 13 weeks old (for some reason he preferred the big girls over his female hatch mates

). He finally started crowing a few days ago at 16 weeks old.

Some roosters are late to crow. I've heard that some crow in the brooder box, my EE boy crowed at 14 weeks, and my mom's mystery-mutt roo waited until 6 months (and he was sexually active long before then).

But yes, he is a cockerel, crowing or not.
