get out the needle and thread, put a needle on about 12 inches of thread hold it about 3 inches above the chick if it goes in circles a girl if it goes back in forth like a straight line a roo i find this pretty reliable

i have had real good luck with it so far just try it for fun see what it says you can do it over your dh wrist or your kids anything alive pregnant women!

pips&peeps :

It is a cockerel; easter eggers rarely have wattles. The comb is already pink and the color is indicative of a silver based bird and when a silver based bird is this color it is a male.

her comb is actually yellow, she is right next to a brooder(red light) in these photos.

please tell me you're joking... for the original poster: this is an old wives' tale. you cannot tell the gender of a chick by string, holding them upside down, etc.

pointed hackle and saddle feathers, comb color, stance, and sometimes coloring and feathering, are all methods to try and determine sex. (note that not all of these work with every breed)

well we just old county folk around here, I can only speak from my own experience I have had good luck with it so does one of my friend who hatches hundreds of chicks a year to sell. maybe someone should recommend it to myth busters t v show!
