Thank you! Yes that’s our coop. The top half is for the chicken, the bottom for our 4 ducklings - 2 rouens, 2 blue Swedish. I still don’t know why I got ducks...I must have read that their eggs are great. Totally different from each other housing wise. Chickens are “clean” compared to messy ducks. But ducks are cute! My husband has been building the coop out of scraps around the yard - we moved to country in 2019. We had left over metal from our barn. So Wood from another project, hinges from his “junk/misc” parts box. Thank goodness, since prices of wood skyrocketed! I’m the painter. My daughters are the caretakers of the critters.Oh yes, the eggs, whether fertilized or not, are edible. It only matters if they are fertilized if you want to hatch chicks. My bantam hen started laying around 10mos old and that first egg is pretty exciting!
I had a million questions when I started in 2019, and am still learning. The best things I did up front was preventative research:
A)keeping them safe from predators
B)how to keep them healthy/what to feed them.
Everything else has been tweaking along the way. Chickens have become my favorite hobby!
Is that your coop, in your avatar? It looks great!![]()
