OK, here we go...pic heavy! Frenchie hatched 10 green eggs. All were varying shades of chipmunk coloring. They are 4 weeks old. My early guess, based on this thread, is only 4 pullets. Any other opinions?

The whities, coming in black and white with some red. #1 and 2.



The basic #3 and 4

Nemo(left) and Blondie. #5 and 6


Pokie and Darkie #7 and 8


The last two, #9 and 10. These two along with Pokey and Darkie have the orange red splotches on their wings.

The difference between 1 and 2 is classic. The cockerel (#1) has the raspberry pink comb which also shows three distinct rows of peas. It's a great picture for this. He's also getting the red on his wings. I'm not an expert on the red coloring, because I have seen examples in posts where the red is spread around much of the body, especially the breast, and they turned out to be pullets. 5 and 8 sure are pretty. Hope they're pullets. The last two are highly suspect. Looking forward to what the really knowledgeable folk think.

Hectares, our blue/grey EE adults all started as chicks of the same color. Out of every 25/30 chicks we hatch we get 2-3 bluish/grey toned chicks. Hope this helps.

do they start out as the usual brown chipmunks, silvery chipmunks, or the yellow babies? I would love to have some blues even if it takes me 25 tries to get one!

Hi! I just started and don't know if I'm doing this right. I have a EE (14 weeks) named Midge that I really hope is a girl. She is really dark brown and white and has a sort of curvy feather in the center of the tail. Has a small comb and is smaller than an australorp of the same age. Is supposed to be a girl, but came from agway. This is my first time with chickens, and I hope it's a girl!

Hecates, their down starts the same color. Silver is silver, blue is blue. Chipmunk doesn't turn blue, atleast never around here. We just hatched one so let get a picture. It hatched sometime yesterday.

I am so glad I found this thread. A lot of very useful information! Thank you to everyone who has contributed.

I have three EEs that were sold to me as pullets, but I began to suspect that one was a boy a few days ago. They are 5 weeks old today. Yesterday the suspected boy started trying to crow and he did it again this morning. At least that's what it sounded like to me, isn't it unusual for them to crow this early?



Here is Alistair (formerly known as Alice Jane), I think I can even see a reddish color starting on his wings.


And here he is with one of the other EEs that I am still hoping is a pullet.

And this is the third one, which I also think is a pullet. Any opinions on whether or not I'm right?

Does dark brown and white mean cockerel the same way black and white does? Does curvy tail always mean rooster too?
