Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

I checked my month old birds' combs yesterday and here's what I have.

Pretty sure this one is a roo.

My other 3 EE combs are like this. Hens? I had been thinking by feather coloring a week ago that I had 2 Roos and 2 hens, but this is making me think twice.

First guy is a cockerel. I don't see any dark red on his wings yet, so keep an eye out for that.

I agree with dan26552 on the other chicks. First one appears to be a pullet. The other 2 are suspicious. Wait and see. They can change a lot at this age.

What does the dark red mean?

This one is definitely a cockerel

This one is looking a little suspicious. I could go either way for now. I think time will tell on this one.

Pullet for now, but I'm still not 100% sure. Time will tell.
Can you update us in a few weeks?

Males with a gold base color (as opposed to silver base -blk & wht) will get patches of dark red feathers on their wings. Silver based males get patches of white, although some will get red also if they have gold genes in the mix.

white wing patch on a silver based male Brahma

dark red coming in on my EE cockerel

when he got older, he got beautiful glassy orange over the red
