Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

This was my suspected cockerel last week, about 5 weeks.

This is him (?) today. In comparing with the black one I have this looks total rooster to me. The legs are thicker too. The black one barely has a comb and it is flesh colored. The flash drowned out the color in this one a little bit in the second picture. I see no red at all on him. Both parents were Ameraucana but he has all the colors together so I would say they are Easter Eggers. Anybody else agree with cockerel or is it too early.

Well, the comb says male, but the color pattern looks more female. I find the black and white EEs tricky to sex. Leaning more toward cockerel, but would wait a week or two to be sure.

Looks like a roo to me. The red on my roos doesn't start coming in until they are about 10-12 weeks old, but that comb is is pretty colorful for a pullet at this age.

Thanks. That's what I was expecting. I did notice he doesn't have any red on his feathers, but starting to notice a metallic bluish color. Very pretty.

Hey Everyone!

I posted a picture of my Easter Egger "pullet" when she was four weeks old, and now she's six, and looks a lot different. She has a lot more white on her, I think than before, but her comb is really bright which has me worried that she's a cockerel, so I thought I would get your input again. I'm absolutely stumped by which sex she is, fingers crossed for a girl of course. Thanks! I can take pictures of any specific part as requested. I've been aware of looking for dark red feathers but I can't find any, like my rooster that I have, has.

That big, white patch on the wing is very suspicious. Was this chick a chipmunk striped baby?

I was worried about the patches when you first posted, and now with the red comb, it looks even more like a cockerel. I will say the black and white ones can be tricky, but hard to believe that that comb doesn't belong to a young roo. Sorry. Sometimes this color doesn't get red on the wings.

Aw, thanks anyway! I'd been really suspicious about her being a cockerel for sometime now. Ack, that means 2 (maybe 3) of the 6 sexed pullets that I got are not pullets!

I posted a picture of my other rooster on here awhile ago (a week)? He's six weeks old now, and here's an updated picture of him. He's a pretty shining example of an Easter Egger cockerel I think, except for the fact that he doesn't have a very big comb at all, and it's certainly not red. I wish I could keep him because he's so darn pretty, but unfortunately he already is not the friendliest roo. We may have found him his very own free-ranging flock for him to protect when he's old enough though. Maybe. We certainly have plenty of roos to rehome!

Anyhow, here he is. And correct me if I'm wrng but is that a beard that he's getting? I'm not too good at identifying these things... and what's the difference between a beard an muff? Thanks again!
