Oh my gosh!! Are you in my backyard with my Winnie?!?! She looks JUST like yours! How insane. If my bf had sent me those pictures I would have thought your chicken was mine! Beautiful girl. I hope. He'd comb doesn't look too pink (but I am on my phone), but the tail is concerning.

Yes, I thought our chickens looked a lot alike also! Hopefully they are all girls

Califarmgirl, the one with the overhead shot in the third picture is a pullet. Can you get a shot like that of the other one? Preferably with good lighting. That one appears to have a less even pattern but I can't see the back well enough to say if there are red bars coming in.

Thanks Debid. Here are more pictures. The lighter one I suspected roo because the comb is bigger. Obviously I don't have a clue. Do these pictures help?

anyone have any guesses on my chicks? I posted an ad looking for Easter Eggers but when I met the woman she brought a ton of chicks mixed together. She did tell me they were all mixes which they very obviously are. Anyone think they know sexes though? They are 7 weeks old. The white one is the smallest with a different comb(pea comb?), the grey one has a fuzzy head and his/her rump looks different, the black one has feathered legs and was the 'chipmonk' coloring before his/her feathers come in. Nickeechickee, roosters vary greatly in frequency of crowing. My EE boy crowed in the pitch black of pre-dawn. We have the coop positioned so you could only hear him with the windows open and even then it wasn't loud but he would not have done well as a covert boy. He was pretty quiet most of the day so I guess he just thought it was his job to wake Apollo to get that sun up.

Califarmgirl, I don't see any red coming in. I think you just have a very orange girl. The baby feather molt starts around 8-9 weeks and the thing to watch for are dark red (like dried blood) feathers popping up in the middle wing. Those would be masculine. Usually you can see some interruption in the patterning where the bars will be so I think the light one is the safer bet for pullet but both are looking girly so far.

Ok This little EE is 5 1/2 weeks old now, the comb is getting pinker but to me those fluffy pants look girly, like most of us who cannot have roosters it may be wishful thinking....

Yes, that's a cockerel. Dark red bars coming in on wing, black blotches in the chest feathers, well-developed comb.

MadamContrary, that's a lot of comb development! I've never seen a pullet with that much that early. Sorry.

thanks for explaining that to me! I will watch for those red feathers in the weeks to come.
