Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Is this a boy? It's 10 weeks. I thought girl for a long time- It's my smallest of the group and pale comb. But getting a slightly darker bit of blotches and tail looks like coming in curved ?

I say hen. Comb is quite pale and the curved feathers coming in are the saddle feathers and they are rounded at the tips, also pointing to hen. She's super cute by the way

Your chick reminds me of one of mine from last year's hatch. He looked almost like yours. For a long time I thought he was a girl, too. He had very light, small and flat comb. He didn't start getting blotchy and dark comb until after the lead rooster was given away. See his pictures below. I suspect yours is a boy. Please post back when you know for sure.

My boy Fuzzy at 8 weeks

very small and light comb at 8 weeks

He is 12 weeks in this last picture.

@polarbearpilot Even the young pics of your chick indicate male by the red splotches in the wings, even in the 8 week old picture. Nigellas' chick doesn't have that, but that said, there is always room for confusion with Easter Eggers!

Hmmmm... I see what could be red patches on Nigellas' bird. It is the tails that look different to me. Fuzzy was a late bloomer and the bird in question could be also. Given the age of this bird however, I still think it's a pullet. Hopefully Nigellas will post again when the bird reveals its true self.

But there sure is a strong resemblance!

Just from my limited breeding of barred birds, the head dot means presence of the barring gene. Sex linking only works if the mom is barred and the dad is solid. Your three are all going to have some barring color, and gorgeous too at that, but won't be sex linked because the dad was barred. I love their color.

Ok thank you! I appreciate it! :) They are the sweetest chicks I have ever had. They beat out even the silkies I used to breed by far!

If i have a EE hen and she breeds with a silkie roo, is there a tell tell sign on sexing them? I had 2 hatch on Easter Sunday and they both have dark skin but not black like a silkie but they do have 5 toes like a silkie. Just wondering if anyone might know or be
able to help.
