Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

I was saying tail because I have owned several Roos with "flashy" tails that curve up and flow down like this one. These are my 1st EEs and I know they are "mixed" breeds so I have no idea what to look for in development :)

Oh no I understand. I just mean even in other breeds at a month old you won't be able to sex via tail as that just depends on their growth. But even ee's females may have a long tail so the easiest ways to tell are sex linked characteristics like color and pattern. Even the comb isn't 100%. But for example a roo won't have a salmon breast. A hen won't have red shoulders. She might have ticking but she won't have red shoulders (unless she's all red or mostly red of course.)

Here are a couple of head shots of Belle (first 2 pics) and Angel (last 2 pics). Angel is anything but her name and Belle and my other Roo got into a stand off this morning. Angel is quite a bit bigger than the others "her" age and is always standing up in a more roo-like manner.

Those are very masculine combs. Crowing, not eggs from these two.

So this is Peach (brown) and Buttercup (white). They are about 4-5 weeks old. I am starting to think Buttercup is not a Buttercup at all, I can see 3 new rows coming up on his/her comb....what do you all think? I am hoping Peach is a girl, she is my daughters and she will be so sad :(

Oh yea, those combs with the coloring show cockerels. How about Bill and .... well, Angel.

I think my EE sexed "pullet' is a roo s/he is a little over a month old and the tail to me looks like roo ugh would love some opinions

It does look like a cockerel, but I'd wait another week or so to be sure. I would expect to see some dark red shoulders coming in on the wings and a jump in growth of the comb if it's a cockerel. As it stands now, despite the red comb and substantial legs, it could be a pullet. Post back in a week or two if you can.

I hope Peach is a pullet too.

Think you need to wait another week and see what changes with them. Buttercup does look cockerel-esque, but can't say for sure with either of them just yet.
