Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Hi,

I just thought I would give a update. I thought it might help people to know the results. I know everyone was pretty sure of this one already but, anyway.

When I went out to the coop this morning I heard this horrible screeching noise coming form within the brooder. I thought something was wrong. I quietly went over and peeked in through the little viewing window. I saw my little blue EE with his neck fully extended trying to do his cock a doodle doo. LOL!!!!

It didn't sound anything like a rooster crowing but, he sure was trying, I saw him do it about 10 times. I have never seen such a small chicken trying to crow. LOL!!! It was to cute, I guess time to find him a home.

I will update when I know for sure about the others. I am sure the Splash will be a boy. My head says the other one is a boy too but, I am gonna keep hoping till I hear that little booger crow.

I've always feather sexed them between 3 to 10 day olds. The ones with the longer front feathers on there wings are the girls, the even wing feathers are the boys. The first time I did this, I did it at the feed store and did it backwards because I was nervous and didn't want them to catch me doing it. Not that it would really matter. But needless to say I came home with 5 roosters and 1 hen!! HAHhahhahaaaa!!!

Seeing them all together, I think they are all cockerels.

Oh goodness, that would be my luck.

I just read about this and I am gonna try it in the future. Wouldn't have made much difference with these though since, I hatched them all out myself.

I know the blue one is because, I saw him try to crow. I know by looks the Splash is. I am pretty sure the cream one is too. I think it is ?

Can I ask you why you think that one is a boy?

From the looks of it, the red on it's shoulders has become a bit more pronounced, the legs look REALLY thick, and the comb appears to have 3 rows of peas already and has quite a bit of color. Those are what make me think cockerel too.

Its just the pic this little guys comb doesn't have any pink yet. I'm not saying its not a boy because, it probably is. I just started being able to see the second and 3rd row of peas with in the last couple of days. When is the earliest do you usually see them on girls. He really has very little red in his wings but, what really has me thinking that his is a boy is the color of the red. The color almost looks mahogany. A girl wouldn't have mahogany colored red would she or is it possible a girl could have some mahogany in her coloring? Thanks so much for your help. Uggh, I really hope that all three aren't boys. Finding homes for that many boys isn't gonna be fun. I was really hoping for some girls. I guess that is what everyone says huh.

Only one of my girls has 3 rows -- very tiny -- and she didn't develop the outer 2 until she was somewhere around 5 or 6 months. The mahogany color of the red I have never seen in a girl. Plus the patches look sort of splotchy... Not even. Pullets have even, "organized" color patterns. Cockerels are all splotchy and patchy.
